This month had as an event a big greek custom: the blessing of the Water, the EPIPHANI, on the 6th of January, which is celebrated in every town and village GREECE. The waters (of the sea, lakes, rivers, wells and springs) are considered to be consecrated everywhere.
The baptism of jesus was of great significance because it symbolizes the regeneration of man. For this reason, up to the 4th C. the christians used to celebrate the beginning of the year on JANUARY 6th.
For most greek islands like Agistri, water has a very special meaning because we completely depend on the watership to deliver every day this precious good.
We should not consider it for granted. There is a lot of talk about water specially after the groundbreaking work of a pioneer Japanese researcher whose astonishing discovery about water, documented photographically, changed most of what we didn't know - and led to a new conciousness of EARTH'S most precious resource. The impact of thought and beauty has never before been demonstrated so well.

VALENTINSDAY 14th of February. Greeks love sweets,
so that's the day when we had an excuse to eat more than usual from heavenly chocolate and pastas. Days get longer and everyone gets in the mood of the approaching crazy carnival. Greece does not have RIO but the fashing metropole PATRAS on the Peloponnese, and of course in small scale all towns have their share of fancy dress parties. Aegina island has it's every year BIG Marriage party,in the harbour, a crazy stimulating last happening on Sunday afternoon, before lental time starts. So end of the month many Athenians will arrive on the island, to celebrate the last days of carnival until CLEAN MONDAY 2nd of march, which is a special day again for Agistri because than the whole population is gathering for pic-nic on DRAGONERA BEACH with typical lental food, the first fresh salads of the season,lots of sea-food, LIFE MUSIC and the traditional KITE flying.
